Authors get bad reviews on Goodreads before review copies are even circulated
- haiku2077 1y agoThis tracks with my experience of Goodreads; the reviews are rarely reflective of whether or not I enjoy a book.

When I raised it with Goodreads they wouldn’t interfere as they said the reviewer had a perfect right to predict if they’d enjoy it or not. Wow, I thought Google's innovation of zero-customer-service was bad. I hadn't considered that Amazon might go one step worse. Maybe I'll go leave one-star reviews of Kindles I haven't used and see if they're consistent about respecting this predictive review doctrine.
- sparky_z 1y agoBack when Netflix would let you give movies a star rating, I sometimes gave bad ratings to things I hadn't watched so that their recommendation engine would know not to recommend more things like that to me. Was I in the wrong for doing that? Was Netflix wrong for letting me? Should they have enforced a "no ratings unless you've watched it all the way through" policy?
