Hugo Administrators Resign in Wake of ChatGPT Controversy
- WalterGR 1y ago“The upcoming Seattle edition of the World Science Fiction Convention, or Worldcon, used AI to help vet program participants.” Why is that resignation-worthy? I feel like the article implies that ChatGPT was used more broadly but never gets around to saying how.
- aprilthird2021 1y ago> using this process saved literally hundreds of hours of volunteer staff time, and we believe it resulted in more accurate vetting after the step of checking any purported negative results Maybe this is the backlash-worthy part. It sounds like what they did was use an LLM to dig up any "dirt" so to speak about candidates then manually verified any of that. I'd be worried that this process would let some people off the hook (not sure what vetting they are doing, or how right/wrong it is, etc.) But yeah wish there were more details

Most of the criticism seemed to be that it was inappropriate to use LLMs to run a sci-fi writing convention because LLMs have been trained on authors’ content. A minority of criticism was about potential inaccuracies.
