- jmclnx 2y ago>Publicly-funded broadcasters are restricted from running traditional commercials So I wonder if the GOP gets their dream come true and cuts the 1% funding. Then I would say NPR could then raise funds via commercials. Then their dream may become a nightmare since no other US news org is even pointing out the illegal actions by Trump and Friends. NPR may be free to report real news without the fear of funding cuts.
- cafard 2y agoDo you count newspapers among news orgs?
- sjsdaiuasgdia 2y ago>Carr, a guy who historically lets giant telecom monopolies run endlessly roughshod over U.S. consumers and the market, couldn’t actually care less about these rules or whether these companies are actually violating them (and they likely aren’t). He’s simply looking for something to harass public journalism over. Wilhoit's Law strikes again! "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."
- taylodl 2y agoThis is the first time I've seen someone quote Wilhoit's Law. Do you know him? I really enjoyed working with him.
- sjsdaiuasgdia 2y agoNo, no direct connection. The quote resonated strongly when I ran across it. It sums up the conservative mindset perfectly, though in a way the vast majority of conservatives would fiercely disagree with. And just because there's apparently confusion about which Frank Wilhoit said this, I'll leave this here: https://slate.com/business/2022/06/wilhoits-law-conservatives-frank-wilhoit.html https://slate.com/business/2022/06/wilhoits-law-conservative...
- taylodl 2y agoFrank has a way of summing up most things perfectly in a way the vast majority of its adherents would fiercely disagree, if they were able to understand any of it at all!
