France has rejected this backdoor but keep in mind that France is still in favor of chat control (mandatory on device scanning of your communication). There's now a majority among EU countries and the proposal is expected to pass. The next meeting is April 8th.
- buybackoff 2y agoI hoped that was a part of this EU debate. It's sad if not.

- orwin 2y agoFrance government is a minority government. The proposal their finance/interior minister do to the council of Europe is a minority opinion in France.
- nickslaughter02 2y agoDoes that make a difference? The proposal has France's vote.
- thomasingalls 2y agoThis seems like one of those situations that's going to turn regular people into outlaws. How could anyone vote in favor of something so foolish? Also how would that even work, would your device get compromised by connecting to a wireless network inside French borders?
- rdm_blackhole 2y agoAnd as usual, the french politicians will change their tune in a few months and go on TV and say that the EU made them do it even though they did not want to.
- contravariant 2y agoUgh, no wonder they don't mind missing this one. Chat control is far more pervasive than what amounts to a digital wiretap.
