- tempaccount420 2y agoDid they disable the comment thread visibility for anon/not-logged-in users? I hope they deleted the comments instead of only hiding them from the public eye.

- ponorin 2y agoi am still able to see it; perhaps you're not a paying subscriber, which i (regrettably) am. edit: yes you do need a phoronix premium or have been a forum member for 3+ years to view the thread.

You don’t hear from them because it’s not in their nature, for better or worse. Your generosity and hard work have made possible things that previously seemed impossible. - runjake 2y agoFor those that are unaware: Asahi Lina is an alternate “vtuber” personality of Hector Martin. So it makes sense his alternate personality would also quit. Rather than rehash it yet again, you can do an HN comment search for “asahi lina“ and get the facts. TL;DR: Hector has goofed a few times and revealed himself on livestreams. I was super interested in this work. I watched a couple of them myself and can confirm at least 2 of these incidents, including one where his vtuber video overlay failed and revealed himself. Anyway, don’t want people to be confused with what’s going on. He’s got problems, like us all, and I hope he finds peace. Edit: Alyssa Rosenzweig is a real person and not one of Hector’s identities. And quite brilliant.

- anonfordays 2y agoWhat harassment? The kind Hector tried to organize on Mastodon against the Linux kernel developers?
- wmf 2y agoWe haven't seen what DMs he was getting. It's true that he was escalating the drama but some threats are never acceptable.
- anonfordays 2y agoUnless he provides proof of DMs, we can discard his claims outright. Nothing "unsafe" occurred on the LKML. Having a thread about you on a gossip website isn't a threat to your safety.

- officeplant 2y agoThere of handfuls of programming v-tubers on twitch/youtube with avatars ranging from animals to anime girls and ASCII animations. It's just another aspect of streaming culture at this point.
