>You guys have offered nothing to address deficit spending
the Republican-controlled Congress passed an increase in the spending limit. DOGE isn't cutting costs -- they can't! That's Congress's job! All DOGE can do is shuffle around the funding, and even then, they only have the authority to do that a certain amount.
Congress mandated that the Executive spend $X Y ways. DOGE does not have control over _EITHER_ the amount OR the ways.
I am sympathetic with financial conservatives who want to shore up the budget but it would be nice if they would actually do that -- it would be an act of Congress, not the Executive.
Anything the Executive does about spending -- besides proposing budget changes to Congress -- is performative at best and downright illegal at worst.
- skellington 2y agoThanks for the rational reply. Totally agree, Congress must reduce spending. They had to increase the spending cap because we will be bouncing off it soon. The history of Republicans is not good when it comes to reigning in spending. Neo-cons are just as bad as Democrats and some Democrats actually reduced spending. So, this shouldn't be such a tribal issue.
- danorama 2y agoIf you don’t want it to be such a tribal issue, maybe stop with the “you guys (who, exactly?) don’t know anything” routine?
