To me the core problem is that the criminal justice system doesn’t work. A man broke the law, was caught, and received no punishment. If the argument is “we can’t give powers to police because they can be misused” this is an argument for disarming them entirely. To me that is just giving up. Instead, we need to fix systems to hold them accountable.
