I've tried the entire app thing once seriously, and didn't get great results. In other cases, it's super helpful with smaller problems like parse this data out of this example of HTML. But I do agree that the code is pretty crap in most cases. I feel like if I was seriously doing this then I'd be mostly refactoring the generated code and writing tests.
