What I find interesting about studies like this (refining predictions) is that under the surface of science, they provide a subtle hint that we are in control because we 'understand the problem'. But we already understood the problem quite well. We are polluting like crazy. We already know what we have to do but we are restricted to impotent actions that are within the bounds of modern technological and capitalistic society. Science is practically useless here to ameliorate effects. We have a phenomenon where technology continually promises solutions and science reassures us that we understand what we need to do.
In reality it's a fool's game. We are on the wrong path and any actions within global society will be ineffectual to change our path.

I only showed this to my students once. https://archive.org/details/thegreatglobalwarmingswindlefulldocumentaryhd https://archive.org/details/thegreatglobalwarmingswindlefull...
- vouaobrasil 2y agoIt's obviously man-made. I've studied the data and science myself. But even independent of that conclusion, I am still against industrial civilization.
- onetokeoverthe 2y agoIf I were against civilization it would be consistent for me to live offline in the woods and raise and grow my own food. I'm in favor of a better type of civilization, especially around things like planned obscelensce. Phones and buildings should both last 100 years. They both used to. The Lightbulb Conspiracy doc talks about how lightbulb life was capped in the 1930s. And how a simple software hack extended the life of a printer which otherwise would have seen the dumpster. They do that fake chip fail stuff with cars too. My neighbor's Jag's chip failed exactly when the new car warranty expired. Bricked the car. Her son fought them and they installed a new chip.
- vouaobrasil 2y agoI guess the question is, what happens when that crumbles because of the unsustainability of modern civilization? Obviously if you're over 30 then you probably won't feel the brunt of it but nevertheless -- it will crumble.
- onetokeoverthe 2y agoThe brunt of shtty civilization has been felt by most for a long time. It has NEVER been easy. Should the older gen have done more? MLK, JFK, Palme, TankMan, many others. Did their best.
