The truth is probably somewhere in between "social media/technology is the cause of all problems" and "social media/technology causes absolutely zero problems that wouldn't be caused anyway"
- CharlesW 2y agoFor sure, there are problems ascribed to all of these things consumed [ignorantly | irresponsibly | in excess]. Still, I've lived long enough to see many of these featured in hysterical "for the children" propaganda, and I find myself recoiling from that, maybe more than most. It's easy to see that AI (LLMs) are next on the list to be vilified, which seems absurd to me.
- vouaobrasil 2y agoUndue alarmism against a thing does not render that thing harmless, even if the original alarmism is excessive.
- CharlesW 2y agoWe are in complete agreement on that. :^)
- MichaelZuo 2y agoThat is true but a 0.001% chance of causing novel problems is effectively zero for most people.
- smokedetector1 2y agoI do not believe it is 0.001%
- MichaelZuo 2y agoWhatever the actual chance is, some fraction of the population will still believe it’s around that.
