- usrnm 2y agoSpace exploration is more important in the long term than whatever happens on Earth
- icegreentea2 2y agoThat might be the public facing messaging, or maybe more precisely, that's one of the connotations that USG might wish for some parts of the public to pick up, but I think we can safely say that the USG as a whole doesn't believe that since it has forbidden NASA cooperation with China since 2011. I think the sibling comment about the physical realities of ISS, plus maybe an attempt as preserving -some sort- of carrot and some measure of "good faith" with Russia. In other words, ISS and space cooperation stands as a token of proof of "hey Russia, if you do what we want, you'll actually get benefits".

- rpadovani 2y agoBecause English is not the mother tongue for the majority of the people, and correctors fix typos, but not swapped words, unless you use something like Grammarly. Pointing out mistakes is fine, being emphatic while doing it would be great
- samarthr1 2y agoI read emphatic as empathetic, also proving your point I suppose
- arrowsmith 2y agoLoads of native speakers get the lose/loose thing wrong too.
- skhunted 2y agoI mostly comment on my iPad. When using an iPad it’s hard to get spelling correct. Also, language changes over time. For instance, “I could care less” is starting to mean “I couldn’t care less”. When enough people say or use a phrase incorrectly enough then it becomes the new correct way.
- arrowsmith 2y agoBecause the vowel sound in “lose” is more commonly spelt “oo” as in “loose”, and “lose” looks like it should rhyme with “nose” or “close” but doesn’t. And “loose” is a real world (albeit with a different meaning and pronunciation to “lose”) so people’s brains (and spell checker) don’t instinctively flag it as wrong.
- anArbitraryOne 2y agoThe Russian orbital segment handles guidance, navigation, and control for the entire station.
