Ryzen 9 refers to flagship CPUs, not year. Same scheme as i3...i9. The first number in 4-digits is the generation but they increment it by 2. This year's Zen 5 lineup consists of R9 9950x (has 16 cores), R9 9900x (12c), R7 9800x3d (8c with 3D Cache), R7 9700x (8c) and R5 9600x (6c).
