“The algorithm is killing twitter” is a weak point.
Whether we like it or not, prior to Musk buying twitter, the old twitter was essentially burning capital and had less than six months of runaway money in the bank, essentially it was 6 months away from bankruptcy.
Contrary to what many people said, twitter is still alive and doing overall okay. Most people are still there, tweeting and doing stuff.
OP just liked the old unsustainable twitter.
Unironically, this person staying on twitter (despite twitter making them “go insane”) is literally what keeps twitter alive.
There’s no way to play this kind of games and win. OP should move to a different platform if the current state of twitter does not suit them.
- saagarjha 2y agoI worked at Twitter. This is not an accurate representation of their financials during that time.
- znpy 2y agoUnless you worked close to the CFO and are willing to share details (like balance sheets) I'm not going to take this comment seriously.
- saagarjha 2y agoI didn't realize that I had to be close to the CFO to read publicly available earnings reports
- znpy 2y agoIf you aren't going to discuss anything that's not public, what's the point of adding that you worked at twitter? "publicly available earning reports" put you on the same level as me or anybody else. Also, there are two kind of accounting: external and internal. Internal accounting (cost accounting etc) does not have to be shared publicly. But that (internal accounting) is where you see many of the details of the inner workings of a company. You also need internal context to understand it. If you're not willing to write anything on that matter when you're adding nothing to the discussion.
- saagarjha 2y agoWell I for one am not going around explaining to people how Twitter was 6 months away from bankruptcy for no reason
- MBCook 2y agoValuation is down 75%. Advertisers are fleeing. A lot of users left. A recent poll (I think there was a submission here on HN this morning said something like 42% of their current users actively dislike the platform. And all of that is to say nothing about Musk’s politics, rule changes, his personal tweets being shown to non-followers, removing the ability to block users, third party apps, and other reasons people may not be happy. Yeah Twitter was burning cash, but they were also overspending. The fact old Twitter was mismanaged isn’t evidence X is doing great.
- znpy 2y ago> Valuation is down 75%. Many companies' valuations could just be over-inflated (dumb example: the dot-com bubble). If you ask me, most of FAANGs (and other F500) valuations are over-inflated.
