- golergka 2y agoHaving read the linked posts, there's clearly a toxic atmosphere which probably drives a lot people off. I'd much rather be a subject of an angry Linus rant than a target of political play like this.
- nairboon 2y agoBut it has noticeable consequences when that person was the maintainer of e.g. texlive and KDE...
- arp242 2y agoProjects like Debian have been losing people over drama and infighting since the moment they started. It's not really clear to me that there are "purges" going on or that it's the major reason people are running away and/or not contributing. A single conflict with a single person over two years ago is certainly not demonstrative of that. I'd wager good money that the ten-year long infighting, bitching, and vitriol over merging /usr/bin and /bin, the extremely long and protracted systemd fight, and things like that are far more impactful in chasing people away.
- JoshTriplett 2y agoAgreed. And in particular, while there has been a lot of fighting over things like systemd and usrmerge, the vast majority of it has been tiring and sometimes unpleasant but not a CoC violation.

- ChocolateGod 2y agoIf there's one thing you can count on from large OSS projects, is that they provide a steady stream of drama. Surely puts people off contributing more than anything.
