Human drivers keep rear-ending Waymos
- tissueapp 2y agoI wonder if drivers would get more aggressive (or less aggressive) if they see a Waymo on the road. Perhaps this driver thought that Waymo would have stopped once it noticed what was happening: "In Tempe, Arizona, an SUV 'overtook the Waymo AV on the left' and then 'initiated a right turn,' cutting the Waymo off and causing a crash. A passenger in the SUV said they suffered moderate injuries"
- jerlam 2y agoI'll bet that drivers become more aggressive because the Waymo actually obeys speed limits, while human drivers rarely do.
- floxy 2y agoI wonder what the human-caused "accident" rate would be if we subtracted out the mayhem caused by fleeing felons. From the sounds of the article, it could be a significant factor. On the other hand, I suppose it won't be long until someone tries a robbery get-away using a Waymo, (or maybe a Tesla in self-driving mode), which I guess is an improvement.
- bell-cot 2y agoQuick (if partial) fix: Put big, obvious trailer hitches on Waymos. Most of the bottom-tier human drivers notice those, and most cut back on their moronic tailgating.
