Alternatives to Google Products – Updated
- fsflover 2y ago> Youtube PeerTube is missing: https://joinpeertube.org/ https://joinpeertube.org/ > Gmail https://www.fsf.org/resources/webmail-systems https://www.fsf.org/resources/webmail-systems
- jm4 2y agoThis is a pretty lousy list. It leaves off a lot of reputable services and products in favor of little known ones. I wouldn’t touch most of these for professional work.
- mrinfinitiesx 2y agohttps://github.com/tycrek/degoogle https://github.com/tycrek/degoogle - A huge list.
- freddyym 2y agoAnd also an archived one. Large portions of the list are out of date and, in some cases, frankly unsafe. Moreover, the notion of degoogling is misguided: privacy should be the aim, not eradicating Google.
- tourmalinetaco 2y agoAlthough, eradicating Google would mostly be a net positive (I solely fear for YouTube’s contents).
- mrinfinitiesx 2y agoA lot of privacy based ones on there, too. Infact it's the entire point of that repo. Nobody says use all of them. And, it's ...a list. There is absolutely nothing misguided about degoogling. It's not using google products. No google workspaces -> cryptpad, nextcloud, self-hosting. E-mail alternatives -> proton, but again, self-hosting alternatives on that list. Firefox, with tons of firefox addons. And I would say yes, eradicate Google use. And my reason: https://kagi.com/smallweb https://kagi.com/smallweb Go check out some of these pages, then google a string with quotes from one of them that only that site would have "something that site would have" It won't come up in the Google results because it buries it so deep, or doesn't even index it that it's ridiculous. We can have privacy, and a better web.
- big-green-man 2y agoThere's so much missing here it's not actually all that helpful.
- aucisson_masque 2y agoYes and what is given isn't exactly useful too. Daylimotion to replace YouTube ?? Everyone is on YouTube sadly, you can't replace it. Best you can do is use different front-ends like freetube.
- add-sub-mul-div 2y agoIt's a young account spamming only its own domain, it's probably AI-written garbage.
- notepad0x90 2y agodegoogling without defacebooking delinkedining and demicrosofting(including github) has little effect. although youtube and sometimes google search are the only products of google I personally use.
- create-username 2y agoI did all that but my employer gave me Google and Microsoft accounts
- notepad0x90 2y agoYeah, work is something else, I use all those for work. But I never use a work device for anything that isn't work.
- Halian 2y agoAbolish FANGAM.
- peq42 2y agoKinda sad about some of the comments, with few suggesting new additions or improvements. Either way, added a couple more and am looking around for more things to add.
- add-sub-mul-div 2y agoInstead of posting 19 of your articles here in 49 days, my suggestion is to put more effort into fewer substantive articles. We're not writers on your staff.
- peq42 2y agoand how is 19 articles in 49 days(1 every ~2.5 days) with relevant content a bad thing? Also, didn't ask anyone to write for me, just: if you dislike it, give constructive criticism and maybe suggestions
- add-sub-mul-div 2y ago"Please don't use HN primarily for promotion. It's ok to post your own stuff part of the time, but the primary use of the site should be for curiosity." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- mathrawka 2y agoSorry to be blunt, but HN is not for proofreading/vetting/reviewing your article. You should be doing that before you post it, if you are considering it to be high quality.
- fsflover 2y agoSearch for similar lists here on HN and you will find everything that you missed.

- redwoolf 2y agoOkay, but why is Aptoide on there[1]? If you're on Android, you've already lost the war with Google. Don't talk to me about custom ROMs. Those are only feasible for the technologically savvy. [1] https://en.aptoide.com https://en.aptoide.com
- geor9e 2y agoInteresting that all of the search engines suggested give me exactly identical results as Bing for obscure queries.
