Microsoft says its Recall uninstall option in Windows 11 is just a bug
- bigfatkitten 2y agoWindows 11 otherwise has the makings of a really nice OS. A real shame, because the only thing holding it back is Microsoft's absolute contempt for its customers. It's not just Recall; it's the mandatory product telemetry, forced cloud integration, and everything else they've gone to special lengths to prevent users disabling or opting out of.
- InfamousRece 2y agoMicrosoft recalls Recall uninstall option.
- peutetre 2y agoRecall is a misfeature. I don't need or want it.
- biglyburrito 2y agoThe more I hear about the changes being made to Windows 11, the less I'm interesting in using it.
- datavirtue 2y agoIt has tabs in explorer!! That's it...the only good thing. The start menu still flakes out and fails to search your apps. It's literally useless garbage until it decides to start working again. Meanwhile my flow is broken by navigating through the file system to start Visual Studio Code.
- hedora 2y agoI’m continuously surprised that people didn’t switch away when the Windows 10 telemetry and adware stuff landed. I thought Windows 8 was sort of decent, so I don’t think I have particularly high expectations.
- oriel 2y agoThe subtitle is even better, > Microsoft is working to fix Recall showing up as an optional Windows 11 feature. then > While the latest update to Windows 11 makes it look like the upcoming Recall feature can be easily removed by users, Microsoft tells us it’s just a bug and a fix is coming. with the crown > Microsoft is now making the AI-powered feature an opt-in experience instead of on by default. I thought that had been changed already. As before, they want to make it Optional Until They Change Their Minds. tl;dr Uninstall Windows 11.
- nsonha 2y agoenough of AI phobia, if I actually do need a feature like Recall on MacOS/linux and local AI model, what are the options?
- PKop 2y agoIt's bad feature phobia.
- 1123581321 2y agoThere is a third party Mac service, Rewind. https://www.rewind.ai/ https://www.rewind.ai/
- nsonha 2y agoData is "stored locally" but does the model run locally too?
- 1123581321 2y agoYes, the model runs locally.

- jocoda 2y agoRecall's premise is great. But not something that should be coming from any third party. I routinely run a screen recorder during dev to help with the process. Often testing a change results in a fleeting error message, or screen artefact that you notice in passing if you're lucky. But usually there are multiple things going on and you have no time to investigate. Reviewing the screencast let's you at least see exactly what happened and substantially cuts down the time you need to get back on track. Sometimes you make a couple of simple changes in the code and break something. Reviewing the screencast helps focus on those changes. Yes, you should be making mini commits, but come on...
