the US Grid Is Adding Batteries at a Much Faster Rate Than Natural Gas
- anovikov 2y agoThere has to be about 40x more for it added annually to have any impact at all.
- ZeroGravitas 2y agoIt's already having an impact: https://blog.gridstatus.io/caiso-batteries-apr-2024/ https://blog.gridstatus.io/caiso-batteries-apr-2024/ ”Batteries Taking Charge of the California Grid” > Batteries have taken a huge leap forward in CAISO this spring, shifting from a noteworthy trend into a major force impacting operations of the grid
- anovikov 2y agoIn California, yes. It consumes 6% of America's electricity and i think accounts for a lion's share of battery installations. And, even there there is not nearly enough solar to make use of proper amount of batteries, grid is still dominated by fossil and nuclear power.
- ZeroGravitas 2y agoCalifornia has been over 50% renewables since 2023. It has like 5% nuclear on top of that. And the rest is gas rather than coal, so all in all it's doing pretty well and still progressing quickly.
