The much more interesting part of this article is the expanded extremely soft power the police will have to punish people for being essentially "in the way". This together with the cell phone issue paints a picture of a sick society.
The phones being removed from children is excellent, as the algorithms that prey on them live in those phones. The fact that we make, tolerate and in some cases even celebrate these apps is a travesty.
The fact that apparently a school teacher is no longer capable of de-escalating and telling another human being to move without the threat of immediate police violence is pretty telling. It tells of an environment where it's not only the kids that need to learn to interact with other people, the adults sorely need it too. That's something that shouldn't be addressed using more police violence.

- krageon 2y agoWith respect, I don't. I don't live in that part of the world and I guess I'm blessed enough to live in a place where what you're describing is not something people do.
- barbazoo 2y agoIt seems to be necessary in BC unfortunately. > Eby says the province has counted 18 major disruptions at schools across the province since the start of the school year, and several more before September, including demonstrators banging on classroom windows at a school in Burns Lake. > "[It's] concerning, frightening, alarming and it makes school feel like a not safe place," he said. > Eby said all of the incidents the province has counted involved demonstrators against SOGI 123 — the province's optional educational resource for teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity — but said the law is content-neutral and will be applied equally regardless of the cause. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-ban-protests-outside-schools-1.7170029 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-ban-prot...
