It’s like reading the works of the mediaeval scholars, but we share mor social context with him.
- Bluestein 2y agoThat's a good way to put it.-
- 082349872349872 2y agoIf either of you two enjoy reading the works of the mediaeval scholars and share some of my post-1945 abstract nonsensical mathematical context, a thought that was too orthogonal for HN's taste might could be of interest: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41258636 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41258636
- Bluestein 2y agoAppreciated. Pity I could not leave a vote.- PS. "Algebraic Theology" now that sounds peculiar.-
- 082349872349872 2y agoIt may sound (and be) peculiar, but isn't completely out of any relation; after all, if one goes back far enough on https://mathgenealogy.org https://mathgenealogy.org one tends to find the ur-advisors themselves were DDs. Example: https://mathgenealogy.org/id.php?id=21235 https://mathgenealogy.org/id.php?id=21235
- Bluestein 2y agoOh, indeed. You are on to something with that neologism. Totally on point. Math has always been the "language" of "God" ... ... why not express DD-aproved concepts in "His" notation? Perfect sense.-
- gradschoolfail 2y ago>”language” of “God” And goddesses (no quotes) if you take Ramanujan seriously :) Sorry to hijack this convo with “Chalcogenic Rheology”, aka self-healing glasses, aka “Vitreous Punk”* https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-developed-glass-that-heals-itself-when-you-press-it-together-cracked-screen https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-have-developed-glass... https://phys.org/news/2024-07-glass-microscopic-defects-reversed-exposed.html https://phys.org/news/2024-07-glass-microscopic-defects-reve... *Seeing who convo-initiator is, also getting reminded I need to work on that gvicino summary.. Paying lipservice to the original intent though, the notation may be post-1945, but the exercise is completely early modern. What would be a worked example towards a modern Algebraic Theology? https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00407-023-00319-9 https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00407-023-00319-9
- Bluestein 2y ago> And goddesses (no quotes) if you take Ramanujan seriously Nicely brought up. Nice catch.-
- 082349872349872 2y agoAh, if only the personal gods and goddesses of academics would directly intervene in proceedings, like (corneal arc'ed) Athena and Apollo (strewer of sandcastles) during the Iliad! For example, Namagiri might ask Narasimha to disembowel that person, neither colleague nor rival, using a mike that is neither free of feedback nor delivers adequate volume, who is neither asking a question nor making a statement, yet commenting upon something that was neither in the slides nor part of the presentation...
- gradschoolfail 2y agoAnything for the precious, bro ;) (Though, i note en passant its unfashionable to name your son “Apollo” in the angle world)
