- BenjiWiebe 2y agoMuch bigger discussion here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41251412 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41251412 No idea why it's getting pushed farther and farther down the front page despite getting lots of activity.
- croemer 2y agoBecause of many people commenting and possibly being flagged as well.
- frabjoused 2y agoThis one also got pushed down. Dang probably isn’t into this kind of post.
- cwillu 2y agoI believe posts that have significantly more comments than upvotes are automatically pushed down.
- seoulmetro 2y agoIt's a form of lazy censorship.
- dang 2y agoIt's an attempt not to have the site be dominated by flamewars.
- seoulmetro 2y agoNo, it's a form of lazy censorship. Having moderators that do proper jobs is an attempt to not have the site be dominated by flamewars.
- dang 2y agoHN is a complex system consisting of community, software, and moderation. We need all three of those in order for it to function. Without software support (a lot of it), HN would be impossible. Of course the software is imperfect, but that's also true of the moderators and (dare I say it) the community. Each needs to compensate for the imperfections of the others.
- seoulmetro 2y agoYes, software to lazily censor can help you guys if you are too lazy to classify what to censor. It doesn't help much though as it decreases the overall quality of the site in exchange for potential moderation threshold decreases. Like I said though, doesn't really help remove flamewars, that's what moderation is for.
- dang 2y agoComments moved thither. Thanks!
