I have been enjoying Threads lately. It's not perfect, but it feels about as close as possible to a sweet spot where 1) it's mainstream enough to get a variety of people 2) the company behind it is actively investing in it and improving it.
(You don't need to respond to point out various flaws with Threads. Yes, we know)
Edit: sheez, no need to get all offended, Twitter fans. I just posted about my experience with a competing product that has been enjoyable for me.
- pavel_lishin 2y agoWho got offended?
- segasaturn 2y agoNone of the pros or cons of Threads matter to me. If its adjacent to Meta and Zuck I'm not touching it.
- davidw 2y agoHe's no saint, but it's a publicly traded company, which maybe gives it a few more guardrails than something private, I think. Not a lot, but something? Compared to Twitter, Blue Sky and Mastodon it seems like the best thing going right now for my needs but that could change in the future and other people might have different preferences.
- orwin 2y agoI had this position 'rather Muck than Zuck' but the Olympics made me switch when political content seeped into sport. Does English have a word similar to 'faquins'? Because I feel that 80% of Twitter nowadays. Oh well, Mastodon for CS/Sec, thread for sport i guess.
- hn1986 2y agoNot ideal, but far better than supporting the current crazies on Twitter. It's basically a right-wing echo chamber with Musk leading the way pushing conspiracy theories and misinformation. https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitter/search/?q=right+wing&type=link&cId=639c91d5-427b-457f-80e5-92be1faa3f8e&iId=1415578e-52b7-4c6b-94f7-78596e4488b8 https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitter/search/?q=right+wing&type=l...
- davidw 2y agoYeah, at this point I am not going back.
- martythemaniak 2y agoIronically, the number one reason I don't use Threads is because it's full of Musk content. Every time I open it, there's multiple posts about some bad shit he's done, how cybertrucks are terrible etc etc. I have Musk and tons of Musk-adjacent accounts blocked on Twitter so I get a Musk-free experience there, but it is increasingly hard to find the nuggets of good content in the sea of crap.
- davidw 2y agoI think it's kind of a natural reaction for people... they enjoyed Twitter and did not like what he's done with it, so some people are overly bitter.
- hn1986 2y agoYou can easily hide (mute) posts with certain words. I have posts with Musk or Elon hidden because it can be excessive. Problem solved. https://www.cnet.com/news/social-media/threads-finally-lets-you-mute-certain-words-from-your-feed-heres-how/ https://www.cnet.com/news/social-media/threads-finally-lets-...
- confidentllm 2y agoThreads isn’t really any better. 90% of the content is people making wildly inaccurate claims about some hot topic (politics, tipping, housing, loans, real estate, etc) OR blatant engagement posts. It’s such a cesspool of idiots. Not a Twitter/X fan either; that place is a cesspool as well.
- hn1986 2y agoHN doesn't like Threads bc it's generally pro-Musk. But it's having lots of momentum since June. Lots of steady features.
