- anovikov 2y agoMaybe a solution would be to only build very large projects, backed by national-level, multibillion dollar investors, who will have resources to suppress any opposition? For example, a solution could be threatening people to build entire new towns on vacant land outside of existing townships, where there won't be any opposition. Effect will be pretty much the same because businesses and residents will move over there, depressing housing prices in the opposing towns. They will suffer all the downsides of new development for no upsides. When this threat is credible enough, opposition will lose steam. But in a larger sense, the problem is unsolvable. This is what happens when the institution of private property is strong enough. Certainly the idea of weakening it to "solve" the problem, is a bad one.
