Is Java Still Relevant Nowadays?
- KingOfLechia 2y ago[dead]
- frankjr 2y agoA company, which makes IDEs based on Java and for Java, concludes based on its own surveys that Java is indeed still relevant. That's a shocking revelation.
- theandrewbailey 2y agoIDE company's survey shows it's own product as overwhelmingly most popular IDE. Who could have guessed?
- desumeku 2y agoAre you saying IntelliJ isn't the most popular IDE for Java?
- Atotalnoob 2y agoVscode has gotten pretty good for java
- leapingdog 2y agoWhat plug-ins do you use?
- Atotalnoob 2y agoI haven’t written Java for a while, but this is always a good starting point. I always start without any extensions then slowly add them as I see a need. https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/java/java-tutorial https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/java/java-tutorial
- leapingdog 2y agoAppreciate the answer.
- leapingdog 2y agoJetBrains make IDEs for a host of languages: https://www.jetbrains.com/ides/ https://www.jetbrains.com/ides/ Their Java IDE is one of the few they release with a free community edition. There is a commercial version with additional features. I expect this is a result from arising where Eclipse and NetBeans open source IDEs existed. I like GoLand and IntelliJ. Superior tools to others I have tried.
- AtlasBarfed 2y agoI really hope so, I'm no superfan for java but I prefer it over JavaScript and Python
- prng2021 2y agoAgreed it's biased, but no one working for a fortune 100 company would doubt Java's relevance

- idnamra 2y agoIt actually has some nice facts as well
- theF00l 2y agoI had never doubted whether Java is still relevant, until I saw an article trying to convince me Java is still relevant.
- leapingdog 2y agoSaying Java is terrible has been a thing since Java first came out. "It's strings aren't even mutable." - some C++ programmers.
- HeyTomesei 2y agoExactly - talk about a marketing backfire.
- ilrwbwrkhv 2y agoJava = death for any startup. It also made OOP the main zeitgeist for many years, another terrible idea. Nowadays it is getting better. But then again there is Kotlin and Clojure too.
- w4rh4wk5 2y agoSadly yes. But given that you ask, there might be an end in sight. ^^
- sneed_chucker 2y agoYes, Java is a fine language and the JVM is a fantastic runtime.
