No love for <marquee> or <center> anymore. Remember, an html tag is only truly deprecated if you stop using it and let it leave your heart.

- phailhaus 2y agoThey say a tag dies twice. Once when it is deprecated by W3C and the second, a bit later on, when somebody uses it for the last time.

- Bilal_io 2y agoI was about to say. Another thing is svg sub tags. I assumed they count since they're valid HTML. I was able to recall 48.
- merb 2y agoblink is also missing
- TheRealPomax 2y agoWho needs <marquee> when we have @keyframes? Now everything is marquee.
- breck 2y agoremoving <center> was a mistake
- assimpleaspossi 2y agocenter is presention. CSS is for presentation. Don't use HTML for presentation or styling.
- breck 2y agoI understand your position and that may be correct. I'm not sure. It's so common (so common that it still works everywhere) might be worth an exception. I just added 'center' tag to Scroll, and seems promising: https://try.scroll.pub/#scroll%0A%20Hello%20world%0A%20%0A%20center%20Hello%20world%0A%20%0A%20%3Ccenter%3EHello%20world%3C%2Fcenter%3E%0A%20%0A%20Hello%20world%0A%20%20style%20text-align%3Acenter%3B%0A%20%0A%20Hello%20world%0A%20%20class%20centerClass%0A%20css%0A%20%20.centerClass%20%7B%20text-align%3A%20center%3B%20%7D https://try.scroll.pub/#scroll%0A%20Hello%20world%0A%20%0A%2...
- seattle_spring 2y ago> I understand your position and that may be correct. That's what I say to markup that uses the <center /> tag
- assimpleaspossi 2y agoThe center element has been marked obsolete for over 15 years and is flagged by the W3C Validator as an error. It can be removed from browsers at any time without notice. https://html.spec.whatwg.org/dev/obsolete.html#obsolete https://html.spec.whatwg.org/dev/obsolete.html#obsolete
- sph 2y agoMeanwhile I use Tailwind and no one can stop me. Semantic HTML was a pipe dream and a silly idea in hindsight.
- assimpleaspossi 2y agoTailwind is a CSS framework and not HTML. Tailwind and CSS have nothing to do with semantics of a document outline and its markup.
- sph 2y agoTailwind is cramming CSS into HTML. It has everything to do with markup.
- assimpleaspossi 2y agoYou are right. And I said the same thing. Tailwind is CSS but that has nothing to do with markup which is strictly HTML. Markup is the description of the contents of the document. CSS is the styling of the document and has nothing to do with description of content. That is the realm of HTML.
- euroderf 2y agoBah humbug. When you just want to get semething onto the web ASAP, browser CSS defaults are pretty OK and <center> might be all you need.
