Show HN: Windows 9X – Windows 98 but all of the programs are AI generated
- footy 2y agoWhy does this need a Google sign in? I know it's been mentioned by others but hard pass. Landing page nailed it, aesthetically.
- HPsquared 2y agoEspecially with the Windows 9x security model...
- DreamFlasher 2y agoHe lost me at the Google sign-in.
- normalaccess 2y agoUsers are given free tokens to use to kick the tires. It needs some form of identity for that.
- shrimp_emoji 2y agoIP is one :)
- qwerty456127 2y agoSign-in with Google SRSLY?
- unstatusthequo 2y agoImmediately left.
- deleted 2y ago[deleted]
- fortyseven 2y agoYep, hard stop.
- matthewsinclair 2y agoIndeed. Nopey McNopenope.
- thelastparadise 2y agoYeah hell no.
- nopelynopington 2y agoSame. I'm not logging in with Google to something that's just for fun
- qwerty456127 2y agoI'm not logging in with Google to anything. Please classic any-email or no-email (like here on HN) registration only (and don't forget to allow changing usernames and emails). As long as it is necessary. Better no registration at all. I used to be among the early OpenID enthusiasts preferring to sign-in with Google everywhere, then I realized what the actual pros and cons are and concluded that's not worth it.
- asveikau 2y agoI thought it was a joke at first. Can you imagine Google SSO on a Win32 app in the 9x era?
- TaylorAlexander 2y agoAlso thought it was a joke. Absolutely not signing in to google for an unknown app meant as a novelty, and I can’t imagine that’s necessary for this to function so I think it’s fair to say it’s a bad design, if not outright malicious.
- normalaccess 2y agoUsers are offered free tokens to test the app with and a google logon is as good as any to test with... I will agree it looks sketch though.
- TaylorAlexander 2y agoIt looks sketch and this is the kind of thing that could really benefit from a small explanation. Users land on what seems to be a joke/novelty website that is immediately asking them for google login information, with no explanation. As you can see from the reactions here, that did not go well. An explanation of the reason for the login would help a lot.
- russdpale 2y agook so what makes this bloody brilliant is that it can claim to have the modern features of windows with the online user account requirement LOL
- anoncow 2y agoWhy sign in?
- bitwize 2y ago"Sign In With Google" -- nope! Not drinking the verification can for your novelty toy. That's how people's data got scraped off Facebook by Cambridge Analytica.
- angryantant 2y ago> Sign In With Google kindly fuck off
- shrimp_emoji 2y agoYeah, naaaaaaaaaaaaah
- evereverever 2y agoI described minesweeper and it came up with something, so that's fun.
- umvi 2y agoWhy do I need to sign in with Google? So you can scrape my email? Why not just ask for my email?
- normalaccess 2y agoSo it can track the free tokens it gives you.
- normalaccess 2y agoFor everyone wondering why the google sign in is required it's because the "app" gives you 5 free tokens to play with. It needs to be able to track that and just using google as your identity solution is way easier than rolling your own.
- drivingmenuts 2y agoJuzt give them during the session. This seems like a novelty item, not something I'd return to over and over.
