There would be a bare minimum of tens of millions of such cases if the rate we see discussed here were global, probably much more. It would be impossible to hide.

It's definitely a teratogen, but you only see birth defects if it's taken during a very specific window during pregnancy. This fact led to the product being left on the market for many years, and even for a period time after we concluded that it was responsible for horrific birth defects and newborn deaths.
