- Lammy 2y agoIn the future only money will have freedom of movement, never humans. You are serving your intended role in the consent-manufacture machine working to ensure that outcome. If you actually still believe in the idea of nations as anything besides a means to divide and conquer Us from Them, I would encourage you to learn about the death and posthumous citizenship of Raoul Wallenberg. The US State Department FOIA cables would be a great place to start.

- llamaimperative 2y agoThat’s a super bonkers theory amigo. “Most people” who dispute the idea that there’s a purposeful undermining of social cohesion via permissive immigration policy are disputing it because they are willing to uproot their entire lives to switch countries?! Holy smokes.
- vsuperpower2020 2y agoRead what I said again, and more carefully.
- llamaimperative 2y agoI keep reading it and it keeps getting crazier and crazier. Feel free to tell me what specifically I interpreted incorrectly :)
- ceejayoz 2y agoIt's definitely a super bonkers theory. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootless_cosmopolitan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootless_cosmopolitan
- llamaimperative 2y agoAh! This makes sense now (unfortunately). Paranoiac crybabies on the rise once again.
- swayvil 2y agoHe may or may not have a valid point. But he stated it clearly and politely. And has been censored for it. And that is a bit messed up.
- tonynator 2y agoThat's HN for you. Reddit but users are given the power to delete comments they don't like (unless you happen to check settings and notice showdead)

- alfalfasprout 2y agoThe type of immigration the US has experienced has changed a fair bit over those 300 years, let alone the last 50 years.
- Loughla 2y agoHow? Other than it's by land instead of by sea? My immigrant grandparents came here seeking asylum from persecution in their home country. The other side all came seeking jobs. How is that different?
- zmgsabst 2y agoThe volume of uncontrolled migration. Societies regulate the influx of strangers to protect their culture — and the rapid influx of people who don’t share cultural values has damaged American culture.
- fwip 2y agoThe Americas went for over 350 years (from 1500 to 1850) before there existed any kinds of controls on immigration. Americans have only ever been afraid of "uncontrolled immigration" when it was non-white immigrants. It was for racist reasons that we passed the Chinese Exclusion Act, and it's for racist reasons now.
- zmgsabst 2y ago> Americans have only ever been afraid of "uncontrolled immigration" when it was non-white immigrants. This is racist revisionism. There was plenty of dislike of white migrants as well, eg, Irish, German, Polish, Italian, etc all received ethnic hatred at various periods. > it's for racist reasons now Believing that all nationalism is racism is ideological nonsense meant to poison the well, rather than address serious challenges to your ideology and the impact it has on cultures and human flourishing.

- asdasdsddd 2y agoPublic trust is a function of common values, as values diverge, trust plummets. Unassimilated immigrants is one of the bigger factors in divergent values among others.
- rootusrootus 2y agoAnd yet, the people with whom my values most diverge are other white people like myself who have been in the US for many generations. It's a cop out to blame this all on the brown people crossing the border.
