That chart is insane. Assuming that scaling up compute is all that's needed seems wildly incorrect to me.
This whole buzz does have shades of self-driving cars back in 2016.

This is literally the strategy that people like Elon Musk are pursuing in their quest for AGI before the end of the decade. It is how he plans to have full self driving solved by August 8 so he can start selling Robotaxi accounts.
- disgruntledphd2 2y agoI mean, maybe? Certainly scaling up compute will make better text predictors, I am entirely unconvinced that that's all which is needed, but eventually I'll be wrong about the hype I guess.
