      My favourite is CMake. "We are better than make but we use make". /s And yes, setting CFLAGS in a CMake project is an exercise in masochism.

        CMake does not compete with Make. :p It's a layer on top of Make (which is way better than directly using Make), and it can also use Ninja, MSVC, etc.
