Google Rolls Back A.I. Search Feature After Flubs and Flaws
- hole_in_foot 2y ago[dead]
- xenospn 2y agoHas Google ever rolled out a “feature” that wasn’t in alpha/beta? I’m honestly having problems imagining Apple, for example, releasing something this buggy just to appease investors.

- bcrl 2y agoIt's almost as if the output of neural networks can't be predicted reliably.
- megadal 2y agoFeels click baity. AI overview is still enabled for an overwhelming majority of searches (if you are logged into your Google Account) I'm only here because I thought it was turned off completely.
- TheCleric 2y agoI was just trying to find a way to turn it off last night (doesn’t seem like you can on mobile safari).
- nickthegreek 2y agoUsing https://udm14.com/ https://udm14.com/ is the easiest way. Or an extension that adds the &udm14 to your Google searches.
- _lvbh 2y agoDid they not test it internally first? So many of Google’s bad press could’ve been easily avoided with some simple QA or slow rollout with a small number of the worst users (e.g. trolls, chronically online, etc) to know how it might be abused. Black Nazis, glue on pizza, etc
- politelemon 2y agoIn their own blog post they say they did test it and "red team" it. https://blog.google/products/search/ai-overviews-update-may-2024/ https://blog.google/products/search/ai-overviews-update-may-... I'd speculate at this point that issues were raised which were ignored and the feature rushed out by pressure from senior leadership to get something "AI related" as soon as possible hurry up please.
- jgalt212 2y agoSomeone didn't tell the marketing department. I keep Google seeing AI everywhere all the time ads on YouTube.
