I just watched the first season of Three Body Problem. There are obviously a lot of technological leaps that happen on ridiculous time scales in that show, but I’m guessing that I’m in a minority in being the most dumbfounded by how quickly they scaled up the “polymer nanofibers” from a bench scale demo, to … shall we say a field test … to the full-scale application in space (trying not to spoil things here…).
Everyone was so awestruck by the super advanced virtual reality helmets and I’m like, we’ll probably have that in ten years.. but scaling up the manufacture of ultra strong polymer nanofibers in a matter of weeks?? How is no one totally floored by this? Haha
