Ohalo Introduces Boosted Breeding
- siliconc0w 2y agoI love the David Friedberg startups. The previous one - Cana, a molecular beverage printer that didn't work out but could've replaced most of the beverages sold in stores was also wild. Perfectly foiled against Sack's AI slack clone or Jason's premium-offshore-assistant company which I am sure are reasonable bets but represent essentially the same tired wave-riding pseudo innovation we're familiar with. With this I'm a bit worried that the food would be the same calories but would be ultimately less nutritious. This is one of the theories of rising obesity, where modern food is up to 70% deleted of micro-nutrients so we need to eat more to feel satiated.
- andrewdb 2y agoIf the nutritional value of a plant's output is governed by its genetics, then this should be a solvable problem. Using the boosted method, breed a high nutritional value plant with a high output plant.
- mvkel 2y agoExcellent comment. The lack of nutrition plays. Impossible meat, for example, is extremely processed and generally much worse than red meat. But, it doesn't require killing a cow to acquire. I wonder if this is more appropriate for reducing food insecurity rather than replacing organic, etc.
