Clients competing with Discord would be things like Element. https://element.io/ https://element.io/ It's no Discord (which itself is no WLM, by the way -- rip to oldschool fat clients which had even less of a business model and whose features you can't have at all or have to pay for now), but I sorely hope it or something open source gets there one day.
