- aledalgrande 2y agoOh thanks I was trying to find if there was a discussion but couldn't
- lenerdenator 2y agoWe here at the legal and regulatory affairs department at Boeing prefer the nomenclature "profit enhancers".
- golergka 2y agoHow long until airlines start advertising that they don't have Boeing planes?
- Cupprum 2y agoI believe it already started, SAS posted couple of messages [1] that they retired their boeings. I believe they currently only have couple of boeing lefts for some medical emergencies. - code_biologist 2y agoI fly Spirit a lot as they have most nonstops on the route I fly most often. I'm not generally a fan, but I like them a lot more since I found out their fleet is entirely Airbus.

- jjeaff 2y agoWouldn't it make a lot more sense to kill the person before they blow the whistle?
- CyberDildonics 2y agoMaybe, but suiciding a whistleblower sends a big message any other potential whistle blowers.
- smt88 2y agoIf your goal is to prevent a PR disaster or government lawsuit: yes. If your goal is to prevent them from testifying or to send a warning to other potential whistleblowers: no.
- jjeaff 2y agoExcept the first one had already testified and the second had already taken depositions which are usually admissible in court.
- anonym29 2y agoThey did that recently, two in a row done the same way would raise too much suspicion so they have to mix it up a little bit.
- anonym29 2y agoEdit: I was wrong, they did it again: https://www.seattletimes.com/business/whistleblower-josh-dean-of-boeing-supplier-spirit-aerosystems-has-died/ https://www.seattletimes.com/business/whistleblower-josh-dea...
- Analemma_ 2y agoHe might make it out OK, thanks to yet more foolish cost-cutting efforts: https://theneedling.com/2024/04/01/heartbreaking-boeing-layoffs-hit-whistleblower-assassin-department/ https://theneedling.com/2024/04/01/heartbreaking-boeing-layo.... Typical Boeing management, saving pennies now to rack up big costs down the road.
- sgt_bilko 2y agoReminds me of https://www.inc-aus.com/jeff-haden/elon-musks-algorithm-a-5-step-process-to-dramatically-improve-nearly-everything-is-both-simple-brilliant.html#:~:text=Question%20every%20requirement.&text=You%20need%20to%20know%20the,the%20requirement%20came%20from%20me https://www.inc-aus.com/jeff-haden/elon-musks-algorithm-a-5-....
- yard2010 2y agoHe says that demands from smart people are the worst since no one questions them. I would say that a smart demand questioned by an idiot is worse but I'm no elon musk
- PaulStatezny 2y agoApparently Boeing has had to pay _billions_ to settle lawsuits related to their shady practices.[0] I wonder how much their competitors partake in similarly unethical management. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/what-has-happened-to-boeing-since-the-737-max-crashes/ https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/what-has-happened...
- toast0 2y agoTheir competitors take no shortcuts in the manufacture of 737s!
- smt88 2y agoA friend of mine is a safety engineer for an airline and says that Boeing is a disaster and Airbus isn't. The culture at Airbus is still responsible and safety-oriented.
- jajko 2y agoAs an European even for me this makes me deeply unhappy. World needs 2 strong competitors neck to neck and not 1 dominant one because greedy managers got company into fubar territory. Literally all of us benefit from long term healthy competition. This begs the question - how fucked up bonus incentives must be set that management chose to tank the company in such a way. Very few people are genuinely evil, but these sociopaths always follow the path of money (and power). Maybe for such strategic companies government needs to set the rules, or at least veto them and have some basic oversight. Duopoly ain't completely free market realm.
- staplers 2y agomanagement chose to tank the company Most don't even know they're nosediving the company. They've spent years inhaling the flatulent business-speak of corporate America and come out believing greed, villainy, and corruption are good for the market and that they are geniuses for taking advantage of the situation.

- imoverclocked 2y agoBetter get all of your air travel in now before half the world's commercial airliners start failing/are grounded! (/s) What's amazing to me is that even with such a degradation in culture and safety, the individual planes are still somehow worth more money than most humans will cumulatively see in their lifetime. I do wonder how quickly that will shift if they don't address the serious problems that have come to light lately though.
- CraigJPerry 2y agoAmerica, used to be engineering-led. Seeing “Made in USA” most often meant you were holding something that was engineered to work and to last. Exceptions to this were rare. The economist-led America of today? Well, I’ve got a modern “made in usa” through hole socket set in the garage with a shattered 13mm socket. I could tell from the second I lifted the first socket they had saved some cash on the materials. Policy type discussions today aren’t fundamentally based on whether something is physically possible or whether a thing would be desirable - discussions today are inevitably founded on cost, they will often touch on other subjects for sure but the one lens that cannot be discarded is the cost one. It’s ok. I’ve collected a few nick nacks from NASA’s glorious days to keep me cheered up.
- staplers 2y agothey will often touch on other subjects for sure but the one lens that cannot be discarded is the cost one Next you'll tell me that the richest are venerated as celebrities to an almost cult status and maybe even elevated to highest authority..
- MeImCounting 2y agoYou should look at some USA made pocket knives. American manufacturing is still alive, well and expensive. Three Rivers Manufacturing, Chris Reeves Knives, Oz Machine Co, American Bladeworks, Koenig Knives and others are doing the best machining using the best materials with the finest engineering anywhere in the world.
- deleted 2y ago[deleted]
- ulfw 2y agoSwiss pocket knife manufacturers might disagree on "finest engineering anywhere in the world" with you.
- MeImCounting 2y agoI cant even think of any swiss knife manufacturers except for Victorinox. They are cute and handy but not even in the same world as the knife manufacturers mentioned above. For instance the SAK in my pocket currently has ever so slight side-to-side blade play from the factory and the file has over time created a small scratch on the side of the blade. Both these kinds of faults would get you a brand new knife and profuse apology from the likes of Koenig or TRM. Dont get me wrong swiss army knives are great but they cant hold a candle to American manufacturers.
- boramalper 2y agoWorth mentioning the story of John Barnett (RIP) here too: John Mitchell Barnett (February 23, 1962 – March 9, 2024) was an American whistleblower who was known for his substantiated safety and quality reports to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about Boeing's production of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and death which occurred amidst a lawsuit he brought against Boeing. Barnett worked in quality control at Boeing for 32 years, serving for seven as a manager in North Charleston, South Carolina. In March 2024, after he failed to report for his third day of deposition, he was found dead of a gunshot wound. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Barnett_(whistleblower) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Barnett_(whistleblower)
- 1oooqooq 2y agosadly we will never read a title "former Boeing executives heading FAA tell Senate about ignoring whistleblowers" which we all know is the only real solution for the problem here
- boppo1 2y agoPretty amazing that we've moved on from this suicide so quickly.
- coryfklein 2y agoYou say, on a comment that is discussing his suicide.
- Log_out_ 2y agoIs there a website where I can see the percentage of boeing/airbus planes in an airline?
- system2 2y agoPretty much every airline wikipedia article mentions the fleet size and what planes they have. I checked previously. American Airlins and Delta have 50/50 Airbus and Boeing planes at 700-800 total each company. Most American ones are 50/50 Airbus / Boeing planes in general.
