Pro photographer here. Try the open-source program darktable. It's a bit different than Lightroom but it can do almost everything Lightroom can do, at least in terms of Raw editing. I use it for all my work. A commercial alternative is DxO Photolab and it's a one-time purchase.
In the past few years, the market has exploded with some very competent alternatives to Adobe. Try them.
Also, Photoshop isn't ideal for photography now that Raw editors are so sophisticated, except when you need extensive retouching. Very few photographers these days use Photoshop.
- gus_massa 3y agoI'm very far away from a profesional photographer, but I use Gimp [1], mostly for editing gif-like [2] images. I also instaled Krita [3] because I read a few recomendations in HN but I never used it. How do they compare with Darktable and Lightroom for the usecase of the OP? [1] https://www.gimp.org/ https://www.gimp.org/ [2] Simple imgages with a solid backgroung with a few geometric objects and only a few colors, more similar to clipart than photographs.
