Is there a way of cracking the subscription-based Photoshop?
My wife is getting into photography, and really wants to get Photoshop or Lightroom. Apparently these are subscription-based SAAS apps now, and she can't use the version she has, because it somehow detects that it's an unauthorised version.
A long time ago, perhaps close to 15 years ago, my old roommate installed photoshop on my MacBook, and blocked it from accessing the Adobe servers, so that it wouldn't be detected as an unauthorised version.
...or at least that's how I remember it. I'm no expert.
Even if that was possible then, I would imagine that's why they switched to the subscription-based SAAS model. So perhaps it's just not possible to block the software from accessing the Adobe servers.
So the question is, is it possible to "crack" Adobe products now, perhaps by blocking them from verifying and authenticating the software?
- eimrine 2y agoWhat feature do you need, is it available in the last version accessible to you?

- HelloNurse 2y agoIf your Photoshop considers itself unauthorized, it hasn't been pirated properly. Maybe the version you are using was incorrectly cracked from the beginning (or not cracked at all?), or you caused a malfunction by not following installation instructions properly or by damaging the installed software later (e.g. with updates). In both cases, you should purge your Photoshop and start over with a good pirated download. Turning your back to Adobe and preferring less hostile software might be a better option in the long term.
- MTA-P 2y agoThanks. This sounds like a really promising answer. I don't suppose you could point me in the direction of a "good" pirated download? Piratebay? Soulseek? I seriously feel like I'm about to get the bum's rush around here. I'm no hacker. I don't know these things.
- HelloNurse 2y agoApproach the choice of a pirated Photoshop like any other software selection process. Typical warez download or indexing sites include forums and comments that allow users to complain about software that doesn't work.
- vouaobrasil 2y agoPro photographer here. Try the open-source program darktable. It's a bit different than Lightroom but it can do almost everything Lightroom can do, at least in terms of Raw editing. I use it for all my work. A commercial alternative is DxO Photolab and it's a one-time purchase. In the past few years, the market has exploded with some very competent alternatives to Adobe. Try them. Also, Photoshop isn't ideal for photography now that Raw editors are so sophisticated, except when you need extensive retouching. Very few photographers these days use Photoshop.
- gus_massa 2y agoI'm very far away from a profesional photographer, but I use Gimp [1], mostly for editing gif-like [2] images. I also instaled Krita [3] because I read a few recomendations in HN but I never used it. How do they compare with Darktable and Lightroom for the usecase of the OP?
