Tesla recalls all 3,878 Cybertrucks over faulty accelerator pedal
- throwaway29812 2y agoI don't think i'm going to hear "Are we calling all software updates recalls now?" anymore
- danielfoster 2y agoThis is frighteningly bad design / quality control.
- r2_pilot 2y agoTesla, Boeing, Microsoft, for a minute there I wasn't sure which megacorp you were talking about
- danielfoster 2y agoIt's almost like they contracted the Cybertruck out to Boeing and Spirit Aerosystems, but even they would not have messed up so badly.
- karaterobot 2y agoFrom what I hear about the design and development of Cybertruck, I would not default to blaming anyone but the person at the top. It sounds like a lot of very talented and committed people had to compromise and bend over backwards to accommodate ludicrous micromanagement and absurd timelines.
- yuliyp 2y agoI'm kind of alarmed by them blaming QC when the problem is the shape of the open space around the pedal allowing for such an opportunity. Even if the pedal itself didn't lodge itself there, a sandal or other shoe could similarly get wedged there.
- rasz 2y agoIf it didnt lodge there it would fall off and land under the brake pedal. How fast does Tesla stop with Regenerative Braking System set to Low and no brakes?
- yuliyp 2y agoTake a look at the TikTok video attached. The brake pedal has plenty of clearance around it on all sides, making the odds of this or anything else getting lodged preventing it from moving fairly low. That's not the case for the accelerator, which has the lip that the brake was getting trapped by within an inch of its top.
- qwerpy 2y agoI know we're all jumping at another exciting opportunity to pile on Elon but there's already another thread here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40085565 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40085565

- plaidfuji 2y ago> The fault was caused by an “unapproved change” that introduced “lubricant (soap)” during the assembly of the accelerator pedals, which reduced the retention of the pad, the recall notice states. “Yo Jimmy, what was that trick you said you did to get these candy-a$$ pedal covers on again?” “Just spray some Dawn on it, slides right on” “Oh right, thanks!”
- darknavi 2y agoMaybe more like: "Hey we are getting pressure to move faster and produce more cars, anyone have any ideas how we can speed things up in your area?" "Yeah so soap might help us 3x the install time on these pedals" "Do it!"
- jncfhnb 2y agoSame as boeing
- rootusrootus 2y agoIt's a relatively common trick when you need lubrication but don't want it to stick around permanently (though personally I dilute the Dawn considerably). But for someone like Tesla, who can afford the fancy stuff, they actually make temporary lubricants for this exact purpose.

- mig39 2y agoMore interesting than "cyber trucks are faulty" is the fact that they've sold less than 4000 of them.
