I feel a dystopian future. Never underestimate what our fellow humans can do.

According to this model of the world, even if AI took over the fighting and the working, at least humans could still occupy themselves with praying.
- imtringued 2y agoI'm pretty sure there is a timeline where humans are atheists but the robots are religious.
- 082349872349872 2y agoReligious automation has prior art: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_flag https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_flag https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_wheel#Electric_dharma_wheels https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_wheel#Electric_dharma_w... When the robots are doing all the praying too, how will we occupy the humans? Yoga and woodworking? Social media? (the latter including faffing about on HN)

- hnthrowaway0328 2y agoIt's going to be so competitive.
- 082349872349872 2y agoThe Onion's been covering the competitive circuit since 1996, when trash talk was all the rage in prayer playoffs: > LHASA, TIBET—Employing the brash style that first brought him to prominence, Sri Dhananjai Bikram won the fifth annual International Yogi Competition yesterday with a world-record point total of 873.6. “I am the serenest!” Bikram shouted to the estimated crowd of 20,000 yoga fans, vigorously pumping his fists. “No one is serener than Sri Dhananjai Bikram—I am the greatest monk of all time!” Sri Dhananjai Bikram walked away with the World Yoga Championship after averaging 1.89 breaths per minute for two straight hours. "I'm blissful! You blissful?! I'm blissful!" he screamed repeatedly to the other yogis.

- selimthegrim 2y agoThis sounds Manichaean actually.
- 082349872349872 2y agoIf it were Manichaean, is there any way to make sure one would be praying to the correct side of the duality? (I'm thinking of Dijkstra, who went to a lot of effort to rediscover, with OR & EQV, the mirror image of what EE's and russian mathematicians had already figured out, with AND & XOR)
