Amazon CEO spurns regulators after failed iRobot deal: 'It's a sad story'
- brevitea 3y agoIt's a major win for the layperson, who by and large can no longer trust Amazon today. Hopefully more to come.
- JohnFen 3y ago> Jassy said the move showed that regulators “trust these two large Chinese companies with maps of the inside of U.S. consumers’ homes more than they do Amazon.” I don't agree that's what it shows. Hopefully, it shows that US regulators don't trust Amazon any more than anyone else. However, their jurisdiction restricts them largely to US companies.
- quantified 3y ago> The acquisition stood to give iRobot a competitive boost against rivals, Jassy said, but regulators blocked the deal “because they worry that we’re going to feature our vacuum cleaner, the Roomba, vs. others, which of course is not our model.” Right. Also, there's no benefit and a bit of worry in Amazon hoovering up floor maps of customer's houses to connect with Alexa audio.
