One thing that helps tremendously is greenery and parks. Unfortunately, most suburbs lack even decently sized trees, either because they are new, they are located somewhere where trees don't grow well, or they aren't well watered to save money. As a result, most suburbs make me feel like I'm stuck the "backrooms".
