Probably with microphones and cameras that send everything happening inside the vehicle to China.
Strong nope for me.
- AnotherGoodName 3y agoPretty hard to avoid in most nations. Eg. In Australia 86% of electric cars (including all Teslas) are made in China. You might say no thanks but for anyone outside of the US or Europe you're not going to pay a huge amount more just to import a USA made Tesla when the Chinese made Teslas are cheaper. https://www.afr.com/life-and-luxury/cars-bikes-and-boats/why-chinese-evs-are-storming-australia-20230915-p5e4y0 https://www.afr.com/life-and-luxury/cars-bikes-and-boats/why...
- darthrupert 3y agoPerhaps I'm naive, bit I would think it's easier for China to compromise chinese companies.
- tjpnz 3y agoNo compromise is necessary when you have access under law.
- defrost 3y agoStrong nope from me also . . . Tesla workers shared sensitive images recorded by customer cars https://www.reuters.com/technology/tesla-workers-shared-sensitive-images-recorded-by-customer-cars-2023-04-06/ https://www.reuters.com/technology/tesla-workers-shared-sens...
- dcrimp 3y agoBut sending it to Silicon Valley is fine right?
- imafish 3y agoDefinitely better than China.
- darthrupert 3y agoNot fine, but massively better than sending it to China. Have you seen the news on the xz backdoor?
- feverzsj 3y agoThey are also significantly more explosive.
- esskay 3y agoNo doubt written on a device with a microphone and camera and access to your local network with no knowledge of what it's doing or where its sending date.
- tjpnz 3y agoTo any doubters it's now common for vehicles to be outfitted with a range of sensors including cameras and GPS. Read the fine print on when said data is beamed back to the mothership and make your own decision.
- defrost 3y agoThere are likely few doubters, for many it's the comment focus on China when US and EU car makers are just as far down the same pathway.
- darthrupert 3y agoThe point is that USA and EU as benevolent actors.
- defrost 3y agoYou dropped the /s tag.
- darthrupert 3y ago3 years ago I would've stupidly agreed with you. Not right now.
- thistletame 3y agoIn the USA this is happening with every other device you own. Then it's bought and sold freely on the open market. Probably to other countries. That's been going on for a decade or so... If you are concerned about a nation state doing bad things with your data, the most immediate threat is likely the nation you live in. Right? Maybe not for military personnel, but most people aren't that.
