Not true. We have team members in Europe and NZ.
“Most of our team are based outside of the Bay Area. We do ask that your workday overlaps with Pacific Time for at least four hours.”
- IshKebab 3y agoThat's quite an ask though - it means I'd finish at 8:30pm at the earliest every day which is completely impossible with children.
- steveklabnik 3y agoYou are not wrong, but that's why we try to focus on the direct need: shared time to directly collaborate with others in the company, rather than secondary expressions of those needs, like "must be in the US." It's true that means that this won't be a fit for a lot of people, but that's always the case with every job. (This is also why our job descriptions tend to not say things like "must have X years of Rust experience" and instead say things like "you will thrive in this role if you appreciate the hard-won thrill of debugging a knotty problem to root cause," because that's focusing on the direct need we have for the position.)
- IshKebab 3y agoYeah that's fair enough. Just a shame for me!
- steveklabnik 3y agoTotally. And we have tons of people who work here who do have kids! Just in easier time zones. I’m hoping that as we grow, this continues to relax. Time will tell.
