Apple AirTag firmware accidental deployment due to 24
- Socnic 3y agodoes it spy more or less than previous versions? air tags are one of the biggest spying network in the world.
- samstave 3y agoDo you simply refer to using them to track objects/people that arent yours? Or aside from nefarious location tracking - can they be used to spy in any other fashion?
- Socnic 3y agoyou can start here: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/may/17/how-apples-airtag-turns-us-into-unwitting-spies-in-a-vast-surveillance-network https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/may/17/how-apple... it's basically a whole underground network even if it uses existing networks (sometimes)... tracking objects is just an excuse to make it happen... a bit like terrorism is an excuse to take away your privacy when it comes to governments... Apple is a privacy-oriented company as much as Obama kept his promise to repeal the "PATRIOT" act
- pbhjpbhj 3y agoI'm surprised this didn't get more comment on HN - I'm curious if people find the explanation to be convincing? Why would the system skip rollout control just because the date was wrong? Is it likely that Apple would program "skip rollout management" based on the date and not on a specific flag being set? Is this cover for an update to a heinous bug, or something? Any thoughts?
