I am super glad to not have applied the update yet, it looks like it would break so many things I rely on that it would be the first update I would have had to revert.
iCloud is so buggy that I consider it a junk drawer that I can use to copy files between computers. I'd really wish Apple would have a Great Software Quality reset, way too many unaddressed bugs.
- gekoxyz 3y agoI would love to have an update like sierra -> high sierra where they focused just on performance and stability, but i really doubt that will happen. They have to catch up with microsoft and google and implement "AI features" in every possible app and OS feature instead of pushing good updates.
- slowmovintarget 3y agoApple has something that they've been putting in their hardware for years and that's neural engines. All modern Macs, iPhones, and iPads have them, and they all allow local inference which has dramatic privacy and security advantages over the Microsoft and Google models (which require you to open all your data to "the cloud"). MacOS 14.4 is a misstep (breaking Java and data backups), but I don't think it's indicative of some radical change of focus.
- classified 3y ago> a Great Software Quality reset Will never happen, they went full in on profit maximizing. Can't afford to do anything that doesn't increase lock-in and money extraction.
