Nvidia AI nurses could cost hospitals $9 an hour
- phren0logy 3y agoIn typical US healthcare economics fashion, this price does not include the cost of being wrong.
- jkic47 3y agoWhy not target a fast-food application, where taking orders would have no liability implications? The $9/hr would be far less than the $15/hr some of the more liberal states have set as minimum wage.
- nyokodo 3y ago> Why not target a fast-food application This is already happening and it doesn’t require advanced AI and expensive Nvidia chips.
- dumbo-octopus 3y agoBecause the workers taking your order are doing other stuff that a robot can't do, and they can't be paid $9 less an hour for not taking orders on top of that other stuff.
- webninja 3y agoThey already do this at certain Checkers locations. Order with voice recognition.
- pilotneko 3y agoCan confirm, my local Checkers has a voice assistant for orders. Typically only a single person working the kitchen and register.
- MichaelMug 3y agoI don't know why they are referring to this as a "nurse." Sure there are some nurses like NP's that can give medical advice. Most nurses in a hospital setting are hands on and in-person interacting with patients implementing care as prescribed by MD's. A video call on a tablet is not going to replace that. I could see this replacing tele visits. Of course, what happens when this AI reads a Summary of Benefits and Coverage document from an insurer and can only respond with "unfortunately your plan does not allow me to..."
- dumbo-octopus 3y agoRight? I have friends who are nurses, sitting at home and taking video calls regarding the delivery of medical advice is almost precisely the polar opposite of what they do. In many cases they're even legally prohibited from doing so!
- prepend 3y agoI think because they would replace nurse lines that are currently staffed by nurses. Or at least be a level1 support or something. $9/hour seems kind of high for this though.
- add-sub-mul-div 3y agoShittier care and the savings won't be passed along to me. What a time to be alive.
- nikolay 3y agoToo expensive considering the risks and that fact that most people won't want their health to be in the hands of flawed AI, which can't even change a bedpan.
