JetBrains' Temporary Solution for macOS 14.4 Issue with Java

- Deukhoofd 3y agoA reference to the OpenJDK Issue about it: https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8327860 https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8327860
- RockRobotRock 3y agoI like JetBrains products but every time I click on a youtrack link it takes 5 seconds to load. SPAs have gone too far. If their goal is to be as agitating as Jira, they succeeded :)
- gjvc 3y agoNo way. YouTrack is the least bad of the pack. It's the tallest dwarf.
- RockRobotRock 3y agoWhy does it take so long to load though? I’m sure it’s fine when you’re actively using it, but it’s infuriatingly slow when I’m trying to find bug reports for jetbrains products
- mdaniel 3y agothe irony is that when I asked them about the stanza in the footer saying "Powered by MPS" they said YouTrack is actually written in a DSL, so that implies to me they could compile a "lite" version that doesn't require several megs of JS to boot up
- renewedrebecca 3y agoI don't see how JetBrains can fix (or even be expected to fix) this problem long term. It's a macOS/Java problem that can only be truly fixed by Apple and Oracle.
- jakewins 3y agoIt makes a lot of sense for them to try though - the obvious reaction here is to switch to VSCode, devs using JetBrains can’t wait for Oracle to fix this. I imagine JB are churning a lot of users because of this
- mdaniel 3y agomerely as anectdata, I'm on 14.4 (m2) and none of the JetBrains products are doing anything weird for me. But nor am I getting any of the whatever other bad outcomes the blogosphere is whining about 14.4 so there's obviously some nuance to the errors also, lol, "the obvious reaction here is to switch to VSCode" doesn't even deserve a response
