France is the number one country in the world for antidepressant drugs consumption...
- davidw 18y agoIs that because people are actually depressed, or because it's easy and cheap to get the pills? Interestingly (well, in a grim sort of way), according to this, the suicide rate is pretty high in France, one of the highest in western Europe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_ra... That's surprising to me, I would have thought France would show up somewhere between places like Italy and Spain (which have low rates despite being relatively a bit poorer), and more northerly, gray places like Germany. Belgium is quite high up there too.
- herval 18y agoit's not cheaper than america... and it requires a prescription, as well
- timr 18y agoI don't know how much you should read into that list, given that Zimbabwe, Iran, Armenia and Uzbekistan are listed as having significantly lower suicide rates than most industrialized nations. It's pretty clear that the statistics are less than reliable.
- xiaoma 18y agoThis list might be a bit easier to scan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OECD_countries_by_suicide_rate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_OECD_countries_by_suici...
