OpenAI investigation says it was wrong to fire Sam Altman
- b0o 3y agoSo an independent study paid for by the current board shows that it was wrong to have fired him after he was reinstated on the current board. What a waste of money, time and reporting.
- dekhn 3y agoHere's the line that sunk the board: "Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI." Pretty much everybody who knows how to read through a press release firing a CEO knew that was an insufficient reason that would only bring more attention to the board's decision-making ability. I think we can expect that Murati will leave, although stranger things have happened.
- nickff 3y agoThe second sentence in your quote seems to be enough justification to fire a CEO. Why do you think it "was an insufficient reason"? What basis is sufficient for removing a CEO?
- dekhn 3y agoNot if you are going to remove your board chair (who is also the CEO) and you do so with a press release that's vague. That instantly tripped everybody's BS meters and led to the board's downfall. If they had been more specific about the reason it would have been less likely to trigger BS meters but would also have been unlikely to convince anybody their actions were appropriate.
