California Program to Expand Zero-Down, Interest-Free Home Loan to Undocumented
- blinded 3y agoWe have citizens that can't afford a houses. Policy like this is really out of touch imo.
- manuelabeledo 3y agoThose citizens can apply for this program too.
- _chu1 3y agoClearly they have been just letting homelessness be an issue if they're able to pull all this as of recently to freely house random people for political brownie points.
- manuelabeledo 3y ago> ... to freely house random people for political brownie points. It seems that buyers still need to apply for a mortgage.
- unsupp0rted 3y agoIs there another state in the world that extends programs like these to "Undocumented" (i.e. people who have overstayed their visa or snuck over a border to get in)? I genuinely don't know if it's net-good or net-bad to go this route. But I've never heard of anywhere else doing this. The closest I've seen are amnesty periods, where you get to declare yourself an illegal alien and be processed out via the airport without the usual fine or re-entry ban.
- manuelabeledo 3y agoMany countries don't require citizenship or permanent residency status to access social programs, e.g. universal healthcare, rationale being that there is no net benefit for the society as a whole, when people who, in their vast majority, contribute to the economy, does not have access to the same safety nets as any other citizen.
- manuelabeledo 3y agoI think this is a good move. Making it harder for people who are already contributing to the economy and paying taxes, benefits no one.
